Le Petit Celestin Paris
- French
Founded in 1686 by the Sicilian Francesco Procopio Dei Coltelli, Le Procope is considered the oldest Café-Glacier in the capital. Located in the heart of the Saint-Germain-des-Prés district, the establishment was in fact the first restaurant in Paris to introduce coffee and to democratize it by offering its table service in a porcelain cup.
A mythical place, very early popular with philosophers and writers of the Age of Enlightenment (Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Voltaire, etc.), history likes to say that the beginnings of Diderot's Encyclopedia were born there. The decor of the establishment also preserves the passage of these illustrious personalities and the ideas exchanged. The wallpaper from the 1830s, which included the two fundamental values of the Republic, “Liberty” and “Equality”, has since been completed and now displays the value “Fraternity”.
Le Procope offers traditional, bourgeois French cuisine through different specialties such as Coq au vin and Veal's Head, braised Beef Cheek, homemade coffee tart or even the traditional Procopio-style Tiramisù.
This French restaurant offers a small hidden terrace sheltered from traffic to enjoy the sunny days!
